How to Hike the Lake Trail in Lake Arrowhead

Adventuring up the mountain to Lake Arrowhead can make for an amazing day, week or extended trip! But if you’re looking to see the lake a bit more up-close than over the railing at the Village, you may be wondering if that’s allowed since there’s been a lot of rumors and new rulings in the past few years about lake access. But….

Yes, Short Term Rental (STR) guests who rent on sites such as Airbnb, Vrbo or others can in fact walk the lake trails in Lake Arrowhead! The ALA does require you to jump through a few hoops… but hopefully this will help you understand how you can gain access, and if you’re our guest there’s a form below to get the whole process started.

  1. Your host must register you with the ALA. To do so they will need your first name, last name, and email addresses of each guest over 18 who wishes to use the trails. Our guests click here to send your info and start the process.

  2. You should then receive an email with paperwork. (If you can’t gain access to the paperwork or can’t print it, that’s okay. You can fill this out at the ALA office upon your visit.)

  3. Obtain your host’s RFID membership card and take it to the ALA Office to register. (I will message you the location if your’e my guest)

  4. Go to the ALA Office at 870 CA-173, Lake Arrowhead, CA. There are a few guest parking spaces along the road. My suggestion is to call to check their hours and make sure they’re open. 909-337-2595 - Press 1 to connect.

  5. The registration process requires that each STR Client who is 18 years of age or older show photo identification, and read and sign the ALA safety rules and waiver document.

  6. Each STR Client who is 18 years of age or older will then pay for a wristband to be worn while on the trails.
    Wristband costs per person are : 1-day at $10, 3-days for $30 or 7-day period for $70
Children under 18 years of age will be issued free wristbands for the same periods of time as the accompanying adults.

  7. While visiting the lake trails, you must wear the wristbands, carry photo identification and have the owner’s RFID membership card to gain access to the locked lake gates.

  8. Please note, you aren’t allowed to use any boats, kayaks, paddle boards, official beach clubs, docks or private property / lots.

If you’re going to be a guest at Arrowhead Pines Hideaway here in Lake Arrowhead, we’re thankfully only a 5 minute walk to the closest lake gate access point! To sign up in advance and get this process started, click the link below to send me some contact info and I will reply to you once I have input your info into the ALA system.
